Friends of the Bay’s Water Quality Monitoring Program is an important component of our efforts to protect the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Estuary and the surrounding watershed.  This program was developed in cooperation with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, United States Environmental Protection Agency, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, local governments and other citizen monitoring groups around Long Island Sound.

Friends of the Bay received Environmental Protection Agency approval for a Quality Assurance Project Plan in 2006.  The QAPP formalizes the quality assurance procedures for the data collection and ensures that our data can be used by EPA and other agencies.  In 2009 Friends of the Bay received a Region 2 Environment Award for our citizen monitoring program.

The QAPPs for our in harbor monitoring program, as well as our stream and outfall monitoring programs are provided below.  It is our hope that they will be of assistance to other groups who are in the process of developing a QAPP.
