The waterfront at Beekman Beach was bustling with Bay Day activity on June 5. Visitors could sign up for harbor sails on the Christeen, borrow a kayak, and get information on the local environment from the many participating organizations, such as the Long Island Sound Study, Theodore Roosevelt Audubon Sanctuary, Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery, and of course, Friends of the Bay.
The weather was beautiful, with clear sunny skies for most of the day, and then just a light cloud cover in the afternoon. The parade of ships participating in the Blessing of the Fleet, which was organized by the Oyster Bay Power Squadron, was a beautiful sight to watch.
This year, all the vessels entered in the ever popular Everything That Floats Race actually made it to the finish line. Clearly, the designs are getting better and the competition more intense. The creativity of the builders is inspiring.
All in all, Bay Day was a beautiful place to be.
