Friends of the Bay volunteer opportunities come in every size and shape.
Projects take place on the bay, at the beach, in the office, at school and even up Mill Creek! Some last only a few hours, while others require more of a time commitment. You can volunteer yourself, with your friends, your family, neighbors, your company, school or community group.
Volunteer for projects to help preserve, protect and restore the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor estuary and surrounding watershed! Opportunities include cleanups, research, help with streams and outfalls testing and water quality monitoring. Volunteers can also help with data entry, filing, fundraising and staffing a table at events.

2020 Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities…
Past Volunteer Opportunities……
Help Keep the Oyster in Oyster Bay (and Cold Spring Harbor) by working with family and friends and making new ones. Raising oysters improves water quality and enhances marine habitat while establishing a sustainable oyster population. Mostly though, folks are having a blast connecting with their neighbors and their local waters as they help their baby oysters grow big enough to fend for themselves (and filter up to 50 gallons of water per day).
Since 2017 hundreds of volunteers including families, scouts, church groups, students, yacht, garden and bath club members and elected officials have been raising oysters in “community gardens.” The project is led by the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Protection Committee, along with Friends of the Bay, the Village of Laurel Hollow, the Town of Oyster Bay, Cornell Cooperative Extension and numerous other organizations. To date more than 100,000 oysters have been released into and around a spawner sanctuary in Cold Spring Harbor.
2019 Past Volunteer Opportunities…
If you have some weekday mornings free, we could use a few volunteers to help with measuring marsh grass for a future project. Waders helpful.
For all you “rain chasers” how about serving as an on-call volunteer to go out on the bay in the rain? We will be venturing out to perform some storm water run-off reconnaissance.
**We are looking for volunteers for Estuary Day. You can help with the cleanup at Beekman Beach from 8 a.m. to 12 noon or with tabling. It promises to be a fun day!
