Recent cleanups have seen such a great turnout of volunteers that we now have SIX different sites along the Oyster Bay / Cold Spring Harbor shoreline where you can participate, plus boats to carry folks to the less accessible beaches and marshes.
For Centre Island Beach, Stehli Beach, and Theodore Roosevelt Park, just show up between 8:00 and noon, and we will fit you out with trash bags, data sheets, and guidance. (See poster above.)
For Caumsett Park, report to the entrance booth at 10:00, and Bill Monahan of the BOCES staff will meet you and shuttle you to the beach. Parking is free for cleanup volunteers. 631-561-5339.
For West Neck Beach, contact cleanup captain Eli Bank,631-239-5812 or email@example.com. The West Neck Pod open water swimmers will also be helping out there.
For Sagamore Hill, things are a little more complicated, since all volunteers on national park property have to be registered with the park service. Best to contact volunteer coordinator Josh Reyes at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can download and fill out paperwork in advance, but must bring it with you to the park. A little extra trouble, but a beautiful stretch of shoreline to clean up!
The weather forecast is favorable, so come on out to enjoy a great morning and pitch in to keep our shores clean and attractive.
We understand that Congressman Steve Israel, who has spoken out forcefully for cleaning up our beaches and waters, will be stopping by to join event sponsors the Town of Oyster Bay, North Oyster Bay Baymen’s Association, Oyster Bay Sail & Power Squadron and Friends of the Bay in thanking our hundreds of volunteers – they deserve it!
